IP Blocking
Find out about IP blocking, what it indicates and just how and when it’s best to utilize it.
Every now and then you may have to block specific third parties from accessing your websites. There are a lot of automatic bots which crawl the Internet, for instance, and produce fake visits and site traffic. There are also spammers who leave links to questionable Internet sites as comments to site articles. This type of things could significantly undermine your hard work, since no one likes to visit an Internet site with hundreds of fake comments, plus the increased website traffic from both spammers and bots can generate high load on the web server where your site is hosted, that can result in your site not functioning properly. Among the most effective solutions in such a case is to block the IP addresses that generate the fake traffic, so as to make sure that the visits to your website are real.

IP Blocking in Cloud Hosting
If you get a
Linux cloud hosting from our company, you shall be able to see comprehensive traffic statistics for all of your Internet sites and if you notice that many of the visits to any of them aren't legit, you may block the IP addresses which have created the most traffic using our IP Blocking tool. The interface is quite simple - pick the needed domain or subdomain from a drop-down list, then type in the IP address that you want to block and save the change. All of the addresses which you have blacklisted will appear inside the same exact section of the Control Panel, so you can always remove any of them and permit it to access your Internet site again. You'll be able to block entire IP ranges using the tool as well - you just have to leave one or two octets from the address blank. For example, entering 1.2.3. will block all 254 IPs from 1.2.3.1 to 1.2.3.255.

IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you host your websites in a
semi-dedicated server account with us and you need to block one or a number of IP addresses eventually, you can use the easy-to-use blocking tool, which we have included in our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP. With a couple of clicks, you shall be able to block individual IPs or entire ranges, if required. All you'll need to do is pick out any one of your domains or subdomains from a drop-down menu, select if the blocking needs to be valid for the root folder or for a subfolder that is part of the site, and then type in the IP address that you want to block. For an IP range, you just have to omit the last octet or the last two octets of the address with regards to the size of the network you want to block. All the addresses that you've restricted will be listed inside the same section and if you wish to whitelist any of them, you shall be able to do it with simply a click anytime.
