In case you have an email address with your very own personal domain instead of a third-party one, you will be able to use an email software application such as Apple Mail, Thunderbird or Outlook to access and manage your email messages. The advantage of using such apps is that they also offer other features, such as address books and calendars. There are two different email protocols that you can select from when you set up the app of your choosing to access your email account – POP3 and IMAP. With the first one, all email messages that are received will be downloaded onto your device – desktop or mobile, unless you choose to leave a copy on the server. With the second one, the messages will be displayed at your end, but they will stay on the server all the time, so you can set up the email account on numerous devices and access the email messages from any place. You’ll also be able to examine old emails in case there’s a problem with your Internet connectivity, which is an advantage over web-based services.
